Fixture Installation in Albuquerque, NM

Rough-in’s done, finishes are in, and now it’s time for the toilets, sinks, tubs, and faucets to actually go in and work right — level, sealed, and hooked up so nothing leaks the first time water hits them. Fixture installation is the last stop in our new construction & repipe work, whether that’s a brand-new house, a full remodel, or every fixture in a bathroom getting swapped out at once, and Jonathan and the crew treat it that way — the finish work that either makes a build look right or gives it away.

Johnathon arrived as scheduled. He had taken a diligent approach about ordering the replacement part we needed. It took a few days to get here. No one had it in stock. The part was top-of-the-line brass to replace an inexpensive cheap cartridge in our shower. Johnathon did the Job in an efficient manner and checked everything when finished to make sure it all properly functioned as designed. Our shower area was left, clean and neat As it was when he got here. Great job, Johnathon

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ J&J Plumbing deserves 5 stars! I started out thinking, “How hard can replacing a toilet be?” Famous last words. After two trips to the toilet aisle, I discovered my plumbing knowledge was about as accurate as my original guess — I needed a 10-inch rough-in, not a 12-inch! At that point, I knew I was in trouble. I called three other plumbing companies, and they all said they could maybe come out in 3–4 days. Meanwhile, my toilet was basically trying to become an indoor fountain. J&J came out quickly, ready to help, and saved me from turning a simple project into a full-blown plumbing adventure. Their advice, experience, and quick response were exactly what I needed. Great people, great service, and I’m grateful they were there before my DIY project became a “call the insurance company” story. Highly recommend J&J Plumbing!

Rough-In’s Already Done, and Now It’s Time to Set Fixtures

This is the tail end of a new build or an addition — the walls are closed, the tile’s down, and the toilets, sinks, and tubs that were only stubbed out during rough-in finally get set and connected.

Doing a Full Remodel? Every Fixture’s Coming Out and Going Back In at Once

A full bathroom or kitchen remodel usually means every fixture in the room comes out and something new goes back in — not a one-off swap, but the whole room done together so everything matches and lines up.

Upgrading to Something Different, Not Just Replacing What’s There

Going from a single sink to a double vanity, a tub to a walk-in shower, or an old water-hog toilet to a low-flow model isn’t a straight swap — it changes the drain and supply layout, not just the fixture sitting on top of it. We’re setting a lot of these in casita builds on the bigger lots out toward Los Ranchos, and in tract-home bathrooms in newer subdivisions like Ventana Ranch, where the layouts are more standardized but the finish expectations are higher than they used to be.

What Actually Has to Line Up for a Fixture to Work Right

The rough-in dimension — the distance from the finished wall to the center of the drain — has to match the fixture you bought, or it doesn’t sit right. Toilets are the big one here: most homes run a 12-inch rough-in, but plenty of older houses and some remodels come in at 10 or 14 inches, and a toilet bought for the wrong measurement just won’t seat against the flange.

The flange — the fitting that anchors the toilet to the drain pipe in the floor — has to sit at the right height relative to the finished floor. Set it too low under new tile and the wax ring, the seal between the toilet and the flange, won’t compress right, and that’s a slow leak waiting to show up as a soft spot in the floor months later.

Supply lines need a shutoff valve at every fixture — no exceptions — so the next repair, whenever it happens, doesn’t mean shutting off water to the whole house. And on anything with a fast-closing valve, like a washing machine hookup or some newer faucets, a water hammer arrestor — a small cushion that absorbs the shock when water stops suddenly — keeps the pipes from banging every time it shuts off.

Water Pressure Regulation / PRV Repair in Albuquerque, NM

How We Actually Handle a Fixture Install

We check every fixture against the actual rough-in measurements before install day, not after — that’s the single biggest thing that keeps a job from stalling out. Fixtures get set level, sealed, and connected, then every line gets tested under pressure before we call it done, because a slow leak behind a new tub surround is a much bigger problem once the drywall’s closed back up.

The mistake we see most: someone buys a fixture online because it looked right in a photo, and it shows up with a rough-in measurement that doesn’t match what’s already in the wall or floor. That’s a returned fixture and a delayed install, not a same-day fix. What surprises people is how much of “does this look right” actually comes down to millimeters — a toilet sitting a half-inch off level rocks every time someone sits down, and it’s almost always a shim under the base, not a bad toilet.

Buying Your Own Fixtures, or Having Us Supply Them?

Bringing your own fixtures usually saves money if you already know what you want and you’re comfortable double-checking rough-in specs before you order. We’ll tell you exactly what to look for so you don’t end up with the wrong measurement.

Having us supply them costs a bit more but takes that risk off your plate entirely — we order to the rough-in we already know is correct, and if something’s wrong, it’s on us to fix, not you scrambling to return a $400 vanity three days before the plumber’s scheduled to show up.

Aging in Place Changes What “Fixture Installation” Means

A comfort-height toilet sits a couple inches taller than standard, which sounds minor until you’re the one using it every day. A curbless, walk-in shower swaps the whole drain layout compared to a standard tub, since the floor has to slope to a linear or center drain instead of a raised tub lip doing the containing. We’re seeing more of these requests from folks in established neighborhoods like Uptown and South Valley, where people bought the house decades ago and would rather retrofit the bathroom than move.

None of this is a straight swap-and-go job. A curbless shower usually means coordinating with whoever’s doing the framing or tile, since the drain slope has to be right before any waterproofing goes down, not corrected after. We’ll tell you upfront if a request needs another trade involved before we can do our part.

Hard Water Leaves Its Mark on New Fixtures Fast

Albuquerque’s hard water — heavy on calcium and mineral content — doesn’t just scale up the inside of a water heater. It leaves white, chalky spots on chrome and brushed-nickel finishes within months of a new fixture going in, especially on faucets and shower heads that see water sitting and evaporating on the surface between uses. If that’s something you want to get ahead of on a brand-new install, a water softener cuts down on the mineral content causing it — worth a quick conversation while we’re already there, not something we’ll push if you’re not interested.

This Covers Full Installs, Not a Single Leaking Faucet

Fixture installation here means new construction, remodels, and whole-room fixture swaps — not a single faucet that’s dripping or one toilet that won’t stop running in a house where everything else is fine. For that, our Fixtures & Faucets repair pages — faucet and toilet repair specifically — are the faster, cheaper call. And if a fixture’s actively flooding or failing right now, that’s not a scheduled install either — that’s emergency plumbing, and we’ll get someone out same-day instead of booking it like a remodel.

Common Questions Before You Call

Do I need to buy fixtures before you can quote the job?

Not necessarily. We can quote based on fixture count and type, but we’ll need exact model numbers before install day so we can confirm rough-in measurements line up.

How long does a full bathroom’s worth of fixtures take to install?

Usually a day for a standard bathroom — toilet, sink, tub or shower fixtures. A kitchen with a sink, faucet, and dishwasher hookup runs similar. Bigger jobs or anything with a layout change take longer, and we’ll give you a real number once we’ve seen the space.

Does an older home near Downtown or Nob Hill need anything different for fixture install?

Sometimes. Older houses closer to Downtown and Nob Hill occasionally have rough-in measurements or drain layouts that don’t match what’s standard today, so we double-check those before ordering anything instead of assuming a modern fixture will just drop in.

Can I get pricing before any work starts?

Yes. We’ll confirm rough-in measurements, tell you what fixtures will and won’t work, and give you a number before we install anything.
